Cocktails on a Ferry with Tech Luminaries

June 2011
T3 Advisors

cocktail21Spring time in New England brings many things. The thawing of snow, the start to a disturbingly short golf season, the annual T3 Advisors Rokxstars party (more on that later this week) and the annual Nantucket Conference.  The conference brings together many of the tech sectors best and brightest. Three days of brainstorming, cocktails and lobsters.  An official conference attendee for seven years, I have chosen the past two years to float around the edges of the conference focused on informal socializing with old friends and clients.  T3 may go back in as a sponsor in the future.  For the moment I want to highlight a few of the highlights from last week.

  • Riding the high speed ferry to Nantucket with some old friends and acquaintances.  Thanks to Gus Weber formerly of Microsoft now of Dogpatch Labs for buying me perhaps the strongest dark and stormy I have every had in my life.
  • Thanks Bob Metcalfe, founder of 3com, for some fascinating stories about your new job teaching at the University of Texas. Hope you bring some of the magic of Silicon Valley and Cambridge to Austin, TX.

Riding the 7:45 am ferry back to Hyannis, I reflected on how, despite being a little hungover, I am one of the luckiest dudes alive.  I am excited to come to work everyday.  Over the past 23 years I have met some of the smartest, most creative people in the business world.  And I have been able to share a few cocktails and laughs along the way.
