And you may ask yourself-Well…How did I get here?
So, how did I get here? With all due respect, it certainly wasn’t listening to Talking Heads – the band or figurative talking heads.
I’ve been lucky. I’ve occasionally found myself behind the wheel of a nice automobile, I have a nice home, and most importantly I have a wife and family that is my top priority.
In the beginning of my career, I worked at a couple of big banks and was challenged intellectually and competitively. In many ways, the 2000s marked some painful times in the banking industry. As I said, I was lucky. I worked with some great clients in sectors that weren’t headline fodder – mostly honest people working really hard to excel. I had bosses I didn’t agree with, but I also had bosses that I call for advice to this day. I lived in Boston, NYC and San Francisco and loved all three. I have phenomenal friends and mentors that will be with me for life. There was always more good than bad. However, at some point, I realized that for me it wasn’t the large automobile or the beautiful house that really mattered. It was everything else. Almost every single person in an institution so large can disappear and the machine continues to chug along. I wanted a new feeling. I wanted a smaller group that had to collaborate to excel.
How could I find work / life balance while still working in a highly competitive environment with a team that would challenge me long term? How could I make a good, comfortable living while being paid what I was worth to the team? If a company has strong leaders who are also instrumental team players, will outcomes reflect those traits?
There are many factors that drive mid-career changes – but my process kept coming back to the team. If I could find a group of people that I respect immensely, that are smart and work incredibly hard, that believes in family first, that directs every business decision with the team in mind – I felt like I had to take a leap. In many ways, the sector didn’t matter. The people mattered. After spending over a year seeing how T3 ran it’s business and consulting with mentors that have built great teams and great companies, I was very intrigued about joining the T3 team.
It has now been over a year. The recruiting pitch remains true. We are passionate about helping tech companies grow their businesses intelligently and cost effectively. We realize that every company is different and needs different skills from our team. We have engineered a structure that insures our clients get the best of our team every step of the way. That may mean that there are deals where I take a back seat to someone who is an expert in an area that I’m not – and that’s a good thing. Every role on the team matters – it is more important to provide a great result for a client than it is to always be the star. We have a group that embraces that ethos.
There are usually a few reasons companies choose to work with us.
